A tour inside the marine world

Lisbon, the city of seven hills, is rich in monuments, typical urban areas, parks, gardens, viewpoints and plenty of activities to get to know Portugal's capital.

In this article we'll talk about the Oceanário de Lisboa, recognised three times as "The Best Aquarium in the World" by Tripadvisor's Trevallers' Choice. It is located in a privileged area of Lisbon, Parque das Nações.

AQUARIUM

The central aquarium currently has five million litres of salt water and more than 8,000 animals and plants of 500 species. It currently houses around 70 species from four oceans and is surrounded by four different marine habitats.

Among all these species are the most famous, such as sea otters, anemones, crabs, urchins, cod, moonfish, rays and sharks. It currently has more than 250 different species.

SUBMERGED FORESTS BY TAKASHI AMANO

The more than 40-metre-long aquarium, with 12 tonnes of sand, 25 tonnes of volcanic rock, 78 tree trunks, 10,000 tropical fish of 40 species and 46 species of aquatic plants, is the largest aquarium in the world created by Takashi Amano.

Takashi Amano was born on 18 July 1954 in Niigata, Japan. He was a photographer, designer and aquarist, but it was in freshwater aquatic landscaping that he excelled and was one of the most influential people in this field.

He specialized in gardening techniques such as the Wabi-sabi concept.

The exhibition at Lisbon's Oceanário features a soundtrack by Rodrigo Leão, which has already been visited by more than 100,000 people. The exhibition will be on show for two and a half years and took seven months to build.

ONE, The Sea as you've never felt it

This exhibition aims to convey man's deep connection with the sea. They challenged artistic director and director Maya de Almeida Araújo, who specializes in underwater motion photography.

  • All the filming took place on Portuguese territory;
  • It took 8 months to film;
  • There were 11 different film crews;
  • 42 people took part, including fishermen, artists, surfers and snorkeling professionals;
